The Showroom Öffentliche Sicherheit at Fraunhofer FOKUS in Berlin Works on Technological and Regulatory Issues in Emergency Response

On the 29th of July 2015, a delegation of The Hague Security Delta (HSD) visited the Showroom Öffentliche Sicherheit at Fraunhofer FOKUS in Berlin. HSD is one of the biggest security clusters in Europe. The delegation consisted of the vice mayor of The Hague and representatives of Innovation Quarter, TNO and KPN.

At Fraunhofer FOKUS, around 500 scientists are working on technological solutions for the Smart City. With its expertise on technologies such as smart communication and system quality, the institute works on applications in public  IT, e- government, smart mobility, smart energy and public safety.  In the public safety field, Fraunhofer works together with the Freie Universität Berlin and public authorities in the Showroom Öffentliche Sicherheit. There is also a safety – lab, which consists of a test and demonstration environment for networked public safety solutions. Research is very oriented on emergency response and crisis management. Swiss and Dutch Precision Industries

Switzerland and the Netherlands are strong and innovative countries with a long history in precision engineering. To increase the cooperation between the countries, this report has reviewed the respective precision engineering industries in both countries. This report could therefore serve as an introduction  and reference manual on  the relevant R&D-landscape in both countries for those parties who want to cooperate. The report focusses on ‘Mechatronics and Manufacturing’, ‘Components and Circuits’ and ‘Nanotechnology’, and the application-areas ‘Health-tech’, ‘Advanced Instrumentation’ and ‘Semiconductor equipment’.

Kernpunten Duitse Digitale Agenda 2014 – 2017

Op 20 augustus presenteerden drie Duitse ministers de Digitale Agenda 2014 – 2017. Minister Gabriel (Economie en Energie) onderstreepte het belang van digitalisering voor de Duitse economie. Hij merkte op dat de opening van de IT – beurs CebIT 2014 door de president van Volkswagen reeds veel opzien baarde, en niet kon uitsluiten dat de president van Google ooit de Hannover Messe zou kunnen openen. Kortom, de wereld van IT, internet en industrie kruipen naar elkaar toe en dat bevestigt het belang van het project Industrie 4.0. De aanwezigheid van Minister Dobrindt (Verkeer en Infrastructuur) en De Maizière (Binnenlandse Zaken) onderstreepten het interdepartementale karakter van de Agenda. Continue reading
